Drone Strike on Fujairah Oil Facility Injures Three Indians as West Asia Tensions Escalate

A drone attack on Fujairah Oil Industry Zone in the United Arab Emirates injured three Indian nationals, sparking international concern. India condemned the strike and called for peace as tensions rise in West Asia, affecting air travel, maritime security, and regional stability.

Three Indian nationals were injured on 5 May 2026 after a drone attack struck the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone in the United Arab Emirates, triggering a fire at the facility and raising fresh concerns over escalating hostilities in West Asia. The attack occurred amid renewed regional tensions, marking a significant breach following the April ceasefire.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs strongly condemned the targeting of civilians and critical infrastructure, calling the incident “unacceptable” and urging an immediate cessation of hostilities. The Indian embassy in Abu Dhabi is actively coordinating with United Arab Emirates authorities to ensure proper medical care for the injured citizens.

Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the attack on Fujairah, which resulted in injuries to three Indian nationals, was unacceptable and emphasized the urgent need to halt attacks on civilian infrastructure and innocent civilians. The government also reiterated its position on maintaining free and unimpeded navigation and commerce through the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law, while expressing readiness to support diplomatic efforts for a peaceful resolution in the region.

The drone strike on the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone is the first such incident since the ceasefire between Iran and the United States in April. The United Arab Emirates Ministry of Defence confirmed that its air defence systems intercepted multiple missiles and drones during the attack. Despite these interceptions, authorities reported a large fire at the Fujairah oil port along with the injuries.

The United States military stated that it intercepted Iranian projectiles aimed at naval and commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and destroyed several Iranian speedboats considered potential threats.

The rising tensions have also disrupted civilian air travel, with flights diverted and airspace temporarily closed due to missile threats. The United States Embassy in the United Arab Emirates issued a security alert warning its citizens of potential aerial threats and advising heightened vigilance.

The attack underscores the growing instability in West Asia and highlights the risks to civilian lives, global energy infrastructure, and international maritime routes. The incident has intensified calls for immediate diplomatic intervention to prevent further escalation and restore stability in the region.
